Why Cashback Gets Declined and How to Avoid It
Most cashback orders go through without trouble. A small share are declined, and the reasons repeat themselves. Knowing them lets you avoid nearly all of it. This guide lists the common causes and what to do in each case.
Declined or reduced: a difference
A declined order is rejected by the shop and earns nothing. A reduced order keeps part of the cashback, for example because you returned one item out of three. The shop makes both decisions, not the portal. We pass on what the shop reports, so the useful work happens before you buy.
The usual reasons
1. Returns and cancellations
Cashback is paid on what you keep. If you send items back, or the shop cancels the order for a stock problem, the matching amount is removed. This is the most frequent reason for a lower payout. If you are unsure about a purchase, a pending order is no reason to keep something you do not want, but be aware of the effect.
2. The tracking did not record
If the click from our page was not saved, the shop does not know where you came from and reports nothing. Typical causes are an ad blocker, a browser that clears cookies, a private window with strict settings, or opening the shop in a second tab. Our guide on browser settings and tracking goes through the details.
3. Another site took over the click
If you clicked through another cashback portal, a coupon site or a price comparison link after ours, the last click normally wins. Your order then belongs to that other source.
4. Excluded products or payment types
Many shops exclude gift cards, vouchers, subscriptions, taxes or shipping from the cashback amount. Some exclude certain brands or items already on deep discount. The conditions on the shop page say what we know. If the page lists an exclusion, an order made up only of that item earns nothing.
5. Using a code that cancels cashback
Certain codes, such as employee, influencer or newsletter codes, disqualify the order from partner programmes. Our guide on combining cashback and coupons explains this in more detail.
6. Wrong country or account
Some shops pay only for customers in specific countries, or only for new customers. If the shop page names a restriction and your order does not meet it, the shop can decline it. Using a different shop version than the one we link also causes trouble.
7. Payment problems and fraud checks
If a payment fails, is charged back, or the shop suspects fraud, the order is cancelled and so is the cashback.
Before you pay: a short checklist
- Open the shop from our page and keep ad blockers off for the shop.
- Read the conditions on the shop page, especially what is excluded.
- Do not use other cashback or coupon sites during the session.
- Complete the order in one go, without leaving the checkout to come back later through another link.
- Keep the order confirmation email until the cashback is confirmed.
What to do if an order was declined
First check why. The status in your account usually gives a short reason. If the reason is a return or cancellation, the decision is final. If you think the order should have counted, for example because you kept everything and used our link, ask us to check with the shop. Send the order number, date, amount and the confirmation email. Our guide on missing cashback lists what helps most.
Why we publish conditions
We are an information portal and we check shop information every day. Where we know that something is excluded, we write it on the shop page, so that surprises are rare. The general rules are in our terms of use. Cashback is paid after confirmation, and payouts start at 20 USD by PayPal.
