Modellbau-Universe: delivery to Germany and Austria, shipping costs, withdrawal and cashback
Modellbau-Universe is a German online shop for plastic model kits, paints, tools and model railway items, run by a small partnership in Hirschaid, Bavaria. If you read English and live outside Germany, the first thing to know is where the shop actually sends its parcels. The shipping page names two countries, and the details below come from the shop's own pages on shipping, payment and withdrawal.
Which countries it delivers to
The shop delivers within Germany and, according to its shipping page, to Austria. No other country is listed there. Customers in the UK, the US or Switzerland should not expect to find their country at checkout. Write to the shop before you plan a purchase from abroad.
Shipping cost
Inside Germany, an order up to 150 euros in goods value pays 6.95 euros for shipping. From 150 euros the shipping is free. Austria has its own line on the page: 9.90 euros shipping. The page does not say whether the 150 euro limit also applies there, so the cart will show the final shipping amount before you pay.
Smaller service fees can be added to an order:
- Ordering by phone, email or letter: 2.00 euros service fee
- Paper invoice sent by post: 1.50 euros
- Paper invoice with an online order: 1.00 euro on top of shipping
- Combining two orders: 3.00 euros
Cash on delivery adds a further flat fee and is only possible for orders inside Germany.
Carrier and delivery time
Parcels travel with DHL. The shop ships within the processing and delivery time shown on each product page, as long as the item is in stock, and that time starts on the first working day after your payment arrives. With PayPal, Amazon Pay or cash on delivery it starts the working day after the order confirmation. If nobody is home, the carrier leaves a notice and you can collect the parcel at your post office within 7 working days.

Payment methods
You can pay by PayPal, Amazon Pay, advance bank transfer, direct debit and credit card. Direct debit and cards run through PayPal without needing a PayPal account, and the card types are Visa, Mastercard and American Express. With an advance transfer the shop ships only after the full amount has arrived, and transfer charges from abroad are yours to cover.
Returns and withdrawal
Consumers have 14 days to withdraw from the contract without giving a reason. The period runs from the day you receive the last item. You tell the shop by email or letter, or through the withdrawal form on the website. The shop refunds your payments, including the standard delivery charge, within 14 days of your notice, using the same payment method. You pay the direct cost of sending the goods back.
Using cashback
Open the Modellbau-Universe page at daily cashback, where the current rate (3.5%) and the offers are listed with the date they were last checked. Press the shop button, then shop and pay as you normally would. In your free account the cashback shows as open and becomes confirmed once the shop has reported the order. A returned item reduces the cashback for that order.
Practical tips
- Check the stock note on each product, since the delivery time depends on it.
- Group your kits, paints and tools into one order to stay clear of the extra service fees.
- Do not open other cashback or voucher sites while you shop, because a later click can replace the first one.
