Digitising old photos, slides and tapes with MEDIAFIX Austria: how to send them, how long it takes, payment and cashback

· 2026-10-13

MEDIAFIX digitises analogue media such as slides, photos, negatives, cine film, video cassettes, music cassettes and tape reels. The company works from Cologne and serves Austria through mediafix.at, with a logistics centre in Ansfelden. You do not buy a product here, you hand over irreplaceable material, so the questions are different: how it gets there, how long you wait, how you pay and what comes back.

How an order runs

  1. You send a non-binding online request, which creates your personal order form.
  2. You pack the media, sign the form and put it into the parcel. Without the signed form the shop may not digitise anything.
  3. You post the parcel to the logistics centre in Ansfelden, or hand it over at one of five collection points.
  4. The material is digitised to your wishes in the company's own plant in Cologne.
  5. You receive the invoice by email and pay it.
  6. Your media and the data travel back to you.

The company says it does the work itself, without an outside firm, under German data protection rules. Your data is not moved to foreign servers and is stored only for processing your order, then deleted.

Drop-off points and postage

The five collection points are partner shops in Graz, Klagenfurt, Salzburg, Vöcklabruck and Vienna. The page describes drop-off and collection during opening hours, transport by the company's own courier service and a cheaper route than a parcel carrier. Call customer service beforehand so you know what to bring. If you post your parcel instead, the logistics centre in Ansfelden is the address, and it does not offer personal advice on site. For the return journey you pay only the normal postage of the post office. A shipping carrier would charge €7.99 per direction and parcel.

Pack film carefully. If you hand your media over in a bag or suitcase, the shop keeps the container during processing, because repacking on the spot is not planned.

How long it takes

StepWhat MEDIAFIX states
Regular processingSix weeks
Typical caseTwo to four weeks in nine of ten cases
Prio service10 working days after the media arrive
Express service5 working days after the media arrive

The count starts when your media reach the logistics centre or a collection point and ends when the digital files are handed to you or to the shipping partner DHL, so add the time of both journeys. Very busy periods can take longer. You get two status emails, one when work starts and one when it is finished, together with the invoice. The page also describes a Christmas promise: anyone who asks by 1 November 2026 gets the results back before the third Advent. The faster services carry an extra charge.

Payment

You pay by bank transfer after you receive the invoice, using the reference given on it. The shop releases or sends your media only after the payment. Cash or card payment at a collection point is not possible, and if you want to pick up in person, the invoice must be settled beforehand.

What you get back

Your digital files come on DVD, a USB stick (16, 32 or 64 GB) or an external hard drive (1 TB), or as an instant download to your computer or phone. You can also send your own storage device. The space needed depends on the quality level you choose.

Cashback at MEDIAFIX

Open the MEDIAFIX page at daily cashback, where the current rate ($5.61) is listed with the offers we check every day. Press the shop button, then place your request and complete your order as usual. In your free account the cashback shows as open and becomes confirmed once the shop has reported the order. If an order is cancelled or refunded, the cashback is deducted.

Tips before you send anything

  • Do not send the only copy without noting what is in the parcel. Take photos of the boxes before you pack.
  • Start the request online first, as the signed order form must be in the parcel.
  • Pause your ad blocker and finish the request in one visit, without codes from other sites.

As of October 2026. Times and conditions can change, so check the order form before you send your media.
