NordPass vs Bitwarden: Which Password Manager to Choose?

· 2026-10-14

NordPass vs Bitwarden: Which Password Manager to Choose? The honest short answer: if you want a free manager that works on every device, Bitwarden is hard to beat. If you plan to pay and like to get something back, NordPass is the one we recommend, because only NordPass takes part in cashback with us, and it names a 30-day money-back window. Bitwarden also sells paid plans, but we do not list it. Status October 2026, prices differ by country.

Cashback: only on a purchase

Cashback needs an order. A free Bitwarden account is no order, so it earns nothing, with us or anywhere. The paid plans of both vendors are purchases, and NordPass is on our list: NordPass at daily cashback. The listed rate belongs to new personal subscriptions; for renewals, upgrades and customers who already pay, the page says that eligibility depends on the current offer. Bitwarden is not listed with us, so its paid plans bring no cashback from our side.

Free versus paid

Bitwarden describes its free account as always free. It stores unlimited passwords on unlimited devices, offers browser, mobile and desktop apps, passkey management, a password generator and Bitwarden Send, and lets you share with one other user. It states open source security, zero-knowledge encryption and built-in phishing protection. For that reason many people never need to pay.

NordPass has a Free plan too, but with a narrower scope: autosave, autofill and secure storage. Syncing across devices, Password Health, the Data Breach Scanner and attachments are marked as paid features in Premium and Family. The Free plan also comes with a 30-day Premium trial. Encryption is XChaCha20, with a zero-knowledge design, and passkeys can be stored.

What the paid tiers add

Bitwarden Premium is for one person and is billed annually. It adds an integrated authenticator, file attachments, emergency access and security reports, plus sharing of vault items with one other user. Its Families plan gives six premium accounts with unlimited sharing and collections. Taxes are not included in the displayed price.

NordPass Premium covers one user and Family covers six accounts, each as a 1-year or 2-year plan. The pricing page shows a discount for new customers and a 30-day money-back guarantee. That last point also shapes the cashback: if you ask for your money back, the order is refunded and the cashback is cancelled with it.

Buying route that keeps the cashback

Start on the NordPass shop page, then subscribe in the same session on the NordPass website. Enter only a code that the page lists; a stranger code can cost the order its eligibility. The entry is pending first and turns payable after NordPass confirms the order.

Three things to check first

Before you commit, check three points. First, do you need the vault on more than one device? The two free offers differ here, as described above. Second, do you share logins with others? Bitwarden shares with one other user for free, and both vendors sell a family plan for six. Third, do you want extras such as an authenticator or file attachments? Bitwarden lists them with Premium, NordPass with its paid plans. Moving from an old manager is worth a trial run, so import a few entries during the free account or the first month before you move everything.
