AliExpress vs Alibaba: What Is the Difference?
AliExpress vs Alibaba: What Is the Difference? Both belong to the same group, but they serve different buyers. AliExpress is built for single items shipped to private customers, Alibaba for businesses ordering from manufacturers and wholesalers. For an ordinary shopper we recommend AliExpress: Buyer Protection and a free return window of 15 days make a small order easy to undo. Alibaba pays off when you buy in bulk and want escrow through Trade Assurance. Both have a page with us, and the current rates are shown there. Status October 2026.
Two shop pages, two audiences
You find them at AliExpress at daily cashback and Alibaba at daily cashback. On AliExpress the rate depends on the category of what you buy, and the rates table on the page lists them. On Alibaba the rate differs between new and existing customers, so it matters whether you have ordered there before. We state no figure here, because both pages change.
Available here with cashback
Alibaba is described on its shop page as a place where buyers find manufacturers and suppliers, aimed mainly at company purchases and larger orders. AliExpress sells the opposite end: thousands of independent sellers, one piece at a time.
How buying works on each side
On AliExpress you put an item in the basket and pay, like in any shop. On Alibaba many listings are ready to ship, and for others you send an inquiry or a request for quotation. The supplier then drafts an order for you to confirm. Minimum order quantities are printed on the listings, anything from a single piece to a few hundred. This difference matters for cashback: an inquiry is not a purchase, and only the completed order counts.
Protection if something goes wrong
AliExpress sums up its Buyer Protection Program as money back for an order that never turns up, comes damaged or differs from the listing. A mismatch or damage has to be reported within 15 days after you receive the goods, and a missing parcel within the guaranteed delivery window shown on the order page. Returns are free within 15 days of delivery, apart from a change of mind, where you pay the return shipping. Refunds go to your original payment method or to AliExpress credit.
Alibaba calls its scheme Trade Assurance. Your payment is held in escrow and released to the supplier after you have received and confirmed the product. If the order does not ship, goes missing or arrives with problems, you can apply for a refund within 30 days of delivery, or 60 days for Enterprise buyers. Alibaba also lists an Easy Return and Refund service with free returns to a local warehouse for defective, wrong or damaged goods. It applies to orders under USD 3,000 and to buyers in a list of countries that includes the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany.
A third piece is the warranty tag: products in machinery and device categories can carry a one-year warranty, claimed within 13 months of dispatch, with replacement parts shipped at Alibaba's cost.
Paying
Alibaba accepts cards, digital wallets and bank transfers, plus wire transfers with escrow protection. It also supports pay-later methods such as Klarna and Afterpay/Clearpay and offers more than 40 currencies. A low fee applies to each successful transaction, and the site tells you not to pay outside the platform. AliExpress shows the payment methods in its checkout, and the final price is clear before you confirm.
What happens to your cashback
For both pages the rule is the same: the order must be completed, and a refunded, cancelled or charged-back purchase loses the reward. The order shows as pending first and becomes payable after the store and its network have approved it. A promotional code that the page does not list may affect eligibility, so check the page before you type one in.

Who should pick what
Private shoppers: if you want one gadget, a tool or a gift, AliExpress fits better. You see the item, pay and have a clear route back if it is not as described.
Small traders and workshops: if you need many pieces, custom specifications or direct contact with a factory, Alibaba is the platform made for that. Compare suppliers and read each order's terms.
People who want to test a supplier: order a sample quantity first, where the listing allows it, and keep the order within the protection window.
What we recommend
For everyday purchases we point to AliExpress. For a business purchase, use Alibaba and keep the payment inside the platform so Trade Assurance applies. Either way, open the store from our shop page first.
Quick takeaways
- Cashback exists for both: AliExpress and Alibaba.
- AliExpress: single items for private buyers. Alibaba: wholesale and manufacturers.
- An inquiry earns nothing, a completed order does.
- Refunds and cancellations remove the cashback.
