Umzugspreisvergleich: moving quotes in Germany, insurance, payment and cashback
Umzugspreisvergleich is not a shop with parcel shipping but a comparison service for moving companies in Germany. You enter start, destination, floor area and inventory, and several firms send you quotes. Because it is a service, the points that matter are different from delivery costs: who quotes, how fast prices arrive, what applies to payment and insurance, and what a move abroad involves.
Who the service is for
The company is based in Bötzingen and says its roughly 600 partner firms are located across Germany. The request form is built for moves within Germany, but the site also has pages for moves abroad, for example to Switzerland, Austria, England or Scandinavia. Sending a request is free and non-binding, whether or not you finally book a firm. The site is in German.
How a request works
- You enter the move-out and move-in places, the date, floor area and inventory, plus assembly, boxes or storage if needed.
- For moves under 100 km, the firms contact you directly.
- From 100 km the service posts your request anonymously. You receive fixed-price offers and a personal moving adviser who goes through the list with you.
- A request usually runs for 3 days. First prices arrive after you confirm your email address, but most offers come shortly before the end.
The site says the first prices tend to be somewhat higher and the better ones come toward the end, so it pays to wait the three days.

What gets checked
By its own account, the service checks each partner's commercial register extract, goods-vehicle licence and transport insurance certificate. For moves from 100 km it also keeps customer satisfaction statistics. Firms plan routes to avoid empty runs. If you move from Hamburg to Munich and a firm is driving back anyway, it can take your move on the return trip. The site uses this to explain its claim that you can save up to 40 percent against regular movers. How much you actually save depends on the offer you take.
Insurance, payment and tax
During transport your goods are covered by standard insurance of 620 € per cubic metre. Extras such as new-value cover or a higher sum can be arranged before the move. Payment is often in cash on moving day, usually half at loading and half at unloading. Many firms also accept bank transfer, some only in advance, and a few take cards. If your employer or an agency pays, firms bill them directly once you hand over a confirmation of cost cover. A work-related move can be tax deductible, but only with an invoice paid by transfer rather than cash.
Moving abroad
Moves to countries outside the EU, such as Switzerland or Norway, are exempt from tax according to the site. Its country pages give guidance for the destination. Enter the destination in the form and the firms price accordingly.
Using cashback
Open the Umzugspreisvergleich page at daily cashback, where the current rate (up to $6.73) and the offers we check every day are listed. Press the button to the provider and send your request in the same session. In your free account the cashback shows as pending and becomes confirmed once the provider has reported the transaction. If an order is cancelled, the portal deducts the amount again.
Tips
- Close other cashback or voucher sites before you fill in the form, because a later click can replace the first one.
- A code from an outside source can cost you the cashback. Current offers are on the shop page with us.
