zChocolat: worldwide shipping, customs duties, melting and cashback
zChocolat is a chocolatier from Forcalquier in Provence that sells boxed chocolates as gifts and sends them by express courier to recipients all over the world. Chocolate is sensitive to heat and customs can be a headache, so the shop spends a lot of its delivery page on exactly those two topics. Here is a summary of what it promises.
Where zChocolat delivers
According to the shipping page, parcels go from France to 178 countries. The carrier is FedEx Express, which the shop calls its exclusive carrier, and every delivery is door to door and signed for. A delivery checker on the page tells you whether your city or country is served, and when. The shop works in English and French, and the currency selector lists a long range of currencies, from euros and dollars to many local ones.
Dispatch and delivery
Orders placed before 14:00 CET leave the atelier the same working day. After that, customs and the last mile are in the carrier's hands, and you get an email at each main checkpoint plus a private tracking link. FedEx delivers against a signature, which any adult at the address can give unless you ask the shop to waive it. If nobody is home, FedEx tries again the next business day, and it never delivers at weekends or on public holidays. At checkout you can pick a target delivery date, but the shop cannot guarantee the exact day when customs or weather intervene. A physical street address is required, because FedEx Express cannot deliver to P.O. boxes in most countries.
Customs, duties and taxes
For most destinations, import duties, taxes and clearance fees are included in what you pay at checkout, so the recipient has nothing to pay on arrival. Sometimes the shipping price already contains them. In some countries the duties appear on their own line named Customs duties, as a percentage of the order value:
| Destination | Customs duties line at checkout |
|---|---|
| United States, Iceland, Indonesia, Qatar, Taiwan, Puerto Rico | 10% on top of the shipping price |
| Canada, Japan, Norway, Panama | 5% on top of the shipping price |
| Philippines | 15% on top of the shipping price |
| Israel, Saudi Arabia, La Réunion | 20% on top of the shipping price |
There is also a list of countries, set out in the terms of sale, where duties cannot be paid in advance. If duties apply there, the recipient pays them to FedEx on delivery, and the shop tells you at checkout before you order.
Keeping the chocolate cool
When the weather requires it, the box travels in an insulated container with refrigerant packs that hold 15 to 20 degrees Celsius until delivery. The packaging is added automatically at no extra charge. In summer the shop may ship early or hold an order back so the parcel does not sit in a warm depot over a weekend, and it informs you whenever it changes the date.
If something goes wrong
The shop's Perfect Delivery Promise: tell it within 24 hours of delivery about a damaged, melted or wrong parcel, with a photo sent through the contact form, and it ships a replacement or refunds you at its own cost. If a parcel is lost, customer service opens a trace with FedEx, and if it cannot be recovered the shop re-ships or refunds in full. Customer care answers in English or French by phone and form, Monday to Friday, 9 to 12 and 2 to 6 Paris time.
Practical details
Every order is treated as a gift. No price or invoice goes inside the parcel; the commercial invoice for customs sits outside the carton and FedEx removes it before delivery. You can ship to several recipients in one order, each with its own message card, delivery date and tracking link. Hotels, hospitals and offices are common delivery points: add the room number and the registered name, and choose a date one business day before check-in. Business orders with many recipients go through an Excel order form on the Business Gifts page.
Using cashback
Open the zChocolat page at daily cashback. It shows the current cashback (10%) and the offers we check every day. Press the shop button, then order and pay as you normally would. In your free account the cashback shows as open at first and becomes confirmed once zChocolat has reported the order. If an order is cancelled or refunded, the cashback is deducted. Take codes only from the shop page, because a code from another site can cancel the cashback.
- Give the recipient's local phone number and email, since customs sometimes asks for them.
- Choose the delivery date one working day early if the gift is for an event.
