Holidu vs Booking.com: Which Is Better for Holiday Homes?
Holidu vs Booking.com: for a holiday home or apartment we would look at Holidu first, because it is built around rentals and shows the extra costs of a property on a separate list. For hotels and mixed trips, Booking.com is the wider choice. Both have a page at daily cashback, so you can collect on either. Which one is cheaper depends on the property and the dates, so compare the full amount. Status October 2026.
Both sites are with us
Both are with us: Holidu at daily cashback and Booking.com at daily cashback. The shop pages show the current rate and conditions, which can differ between the two. Look at them side by side before you pick.

Booking a stay with cashback, step by step
- Choose your destination and dates and note two or three candidates on both sites. Compare the full amount, not the nightly price.
- Call up the shop page of your pick, ad blocker off and no other comparison or voucher tabs open.
- Use the booking button to look up the same property again.
- Book in the same session and keep the confirmation email.
- Your free account lists the stay as pending.
- The stay itself confirms it, and only then can it be paid out.
How cashback gets lost on a stay
- You cancel the stay. Without the trip there is nothing to confirm.
- You shorten the stay, in which case the cashback may follow the nights that remain.
- You book the same property through a different site or directly.
- The ad blocker stopped the click, or a code from another site replaced the tracking.
- The stay does not take place or is not paid in full.
The differences in short
Extra costs. Holidu says that costs beyond the nightly price, such as cleaning, bed linen, towels, pets or utilities, are listed after you pick dates and guests on the property page. Booking.com states that you pay no reservation fee to it, and taxes may or may not be in the price, depending on the property and country, as the comparison view shows.
Discounts. Holidu explains that hosts set their own prices, that any discount is already part of the price shown, and that no promo code is needed. Booking.com runs Genius, a free scheme: level one takes 10 percent off stays, level two 10 to 15 percent off after five bookings within two years, level three 10 to 20 percent off after fifteen, at participating properties.
Payment. Holidu notes that some bookings need two payments, with the date of the second one in your confirmation email and under My Bookings, and that a failed payment may lead to automatic cancellation. At Booking.com the property usually charges your card, and at some properties a prepayment can reach the whole amount.
Cancelling. At Holidu the host's policy applies, shown before you book, from flexible to strict. At Booking.com a free cancellation booking carries no fee, while a non-refundable or no longer free booking may, and the property sets it.
Account. Holidu lets you cancel from your account or from the link in the confirmation email. Booking.com has the same in its Bookings and trips section.
A short checklist before you book
- Read the cancellation policy of the exact property and rate, not the general rule of the site.
- Open the list of extra costs and note which are paid on site and which are in the price.
- Check the payment dates in the confirmation: a second payment, a prepayment or a card hold.
- Look at what Genius or the host's own long-stay rates add for your dates.
- Keep the confirmation email until the stay is over and the cashback is confirmed.
Booking.com adds that your confirmation email and your account show whether taxes, breakfast or service charges are part of the price, so the final check is always the confirmation and not the search result.
Who should pick what
Families and groups in a house or flat: Holidu, because the cost list helps you see what is added to the nightly price.
Mixed trips with hotels: Booking.com, with Genius running next to the cashback.
Flexible planners: pick a rate with free cancellation on either site. A cancelled stay earns no cashback in any case, but you do not risk the money.
Long stays: Holidu tells you that some hosts offer lower rates for longer bookings, so try a few different lengths.
Our recommendation
For a holiday home we start with Holidu, for a hotel or a city break with Booking.com. If you cannot decide, search the same property type on both, compare the full amount and the cancellation terms, and open the matching shop page before you book.
