Booking flights on Kiwi.com: ticket types, cancellation, refunds and cashback
Kiwi.com is a flight booking site that combines flights from different airlines, and it also sells hotels and car rental. Because you buy a service rather than a parcel, the questions that matter are different: how much can you change or cancel, how fast does a refund arrive, which payment methods work and what protection you get when an airline changes a flight. The details below come from the Kiwi.com help centre.
Where and how you can book
The site runs in many languages and local versions, among them English for the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland, India and New Zealand, German for Austria and Switzerland, Spanish for Mexico, Argentina and several other countries, French for Belgium and Canada, and Portuguese for Brazil. The cashback programme listed for Kiwi.com covers the US, Australia, Brazil and Mexico.
Three ticket types
When you book you pick one of three ticket types, and it decides how much you can change or cancel later. All changes and cancellations are possible up to 48 hours before the trip starts. For a Flexi Ticket bought less than a week before the first departure, the limit is 4 hours.
| Ticket | Changes | Cancellation |
|---|---|---|
| Saver | Not possible, cancel and rebook | Handled under airline rules |
| Standard | You pay only the difference | Handled under airline rules |
| Flexi | You pay only the difference | Whole booking, eighty percent of airline ticket and services back |
With a Saver or Standard ticket and no Kiwi.com Guarantee, a refund fee of thirty euros per traveler and flight applies. With a Flexi ticket, Kiwi.com fees and other non-airline services are not refunded. Saver and Standard tickets let you cancel single flights, Flexi only the whole booking for all travelers. You cancel in your account under Changes and cancellations. Most carriers offer no 24-hour grace period, and Kiwi.com cannot either.
Refunds and how long they take
If a refund goes into Kiwi.com Credit, it reaches your account within minutes. If it goes back to your original payment method, allow about 7 days, depending on your bank. When an airline cancels a flight and you have no disruption protection, Kiwi.com applies for an assisted refund for you, which usually takes around 14 days, because the airline needs time to review it. If you have not seen your money within 10 working days of Kiwi.com's notice, contact your bank.
Payment
You can pay with a card, Kiwi.com Credit, a promo code or alternative methods. Accepted cards are Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Discover, Maestro, Diners Club International and Elo. Other methods are PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Revolut Pay. Credit can be combined with other methods, except PayPal.
Disruption protection and baggage
The disruption services offer help if an airline changes or cancels part of your trip. With Disruption Protection or Connection Protection you can get instant compensation as Kiwi.com Credit, to book a replacement flight at once, or have Kiwi.com apply for the airline refund for you. Baggage you check in travels in the cargo hold. With a carrier protected transfer under one reservation number the airline moves it for you, with a self-transfer you collect it and check it in again.
Using cashback
Open the Kiwi.com page at daily cashback, where the current rate (1.4%) is shown beside the offers we check every day. Press the shop button, then search and book as usual. In your free account the cashback appears as open and turns confirmed after the booking has been reported. A cancelled or refunded booking reduces the amount.
Practical tips
- Pick the ticket type by how likely your plans are to change, not only by price.
- Check the 48-hour limit before you rely on a change or cancellation.
- Make the booking in one visit and pause your ad blocker, and close other cashback or voucher sites.
