Booking flights with Flugladen: cancellation, refunds and cashback

Flugladen is a German-language flight booking site where prices are shown in euros. You book a ticket, but the airline sets most of the rules, so what matters before you pay is how cancelling, changing and refunds work. This guide goes through the shop's own help pages and explains how cashback fits in.

Managing a booking

Everything after the purchase runs through "Mein Konto" (My Account) on the site. You log in with your email address and password, or, if you have no account, with your booking number and the email you used. From there you can cancel flights, change them, check in online and look up your baggage allowance. The conditions of your ticket are listed in the confirmation email under "Ticketbedingungen anzeigen".

After payment the ticket is normally issued within 12 hours, and a confirmation email goes to the address you booked with.

Cancelling a flight

Cancelling is done in the booking under the option to cancel. The shop says it adds no cancellation fee of its own: the only charges are those set by the ticket provider and the airline. Almost every cancellation costs something, and some tickets cannot be cancelled or refunded at all, so read the fare conditions first. Expired tickets cannot be cancelled, and the airport desk does not process cancellations.

The latest time you can cancel depends on the airline. Many airlines allow it up to 24 hours before departure, others differ.

Low-cost airlines

If you booked a low-cost carrier such as Ryanair, easyJet or AirAsia, the shop cannot cancel or refund for you. You have to contact the airline directly, because these carriers do not accept requests from the shop. Your ticket conditions show whether your flight is one of them.

Changing a flight

Changes are made in "Mein Konto" as well, and a change always costs something: the airline's fee plus any fare difference. Some tickets do not allow changes. If your departure is within 4 days or the booking was made today, the shop asks you to use the chat.

Refunds

Refunds go back to the payment method used for the booking, where possible. After a cancellation it usually takes 10 to 12 weeks until the money reaches your account, depending on the airline and your payment provider. The airline pays the shop first, and the shop then passes the money on. If a booking fails, you get a full refund, processed within 5 working days, and your bank may need 5 to 10 working days more.

If the airline cancels your flight, you are normally offered a new flight, a refund or a voucher, depending on the airline.

Payment and fees

A ticket price includes the fare, taxes and fuel costs. The price shown on the site can change before you book, because fares move with availability, and the shop does not refund a difference after payment. Some countries charge a departure tax at the airport, and a few airlines charge at check-in, which you avoid by checking in online. Using a foreign bank card usually carries no transaction fee.

Using cashback

Open the Flugladen page at daily cashback first, where the current rate (up to $6.17) and the latest offers are listed with the date they were last checked. Press the shop button and book as usual. In your free account the cashback shows as open and turns confirmed once the booking has been reported. If you cancel a flight, the cashback for it is deducted.

Tips

  • Read "Ticketbedingungen anzeigen" before paying, because it tells you whether the ticket can be changed or refunded.
  • With a low-cost carrier, plan on dealing with the airline itself if you need to cancel or change.
