Trip.com vs Expedia: Where Is Cashback Paid?

· 2026-09-22

Trip.com vs Expedia: if you want cashback on a travel booking, book through Trip.com, because only Trip.com has a shop page with us. Expedia is a large booking platform for hotels, flights, car hire and packages and is not one of our shops. Trip.com also states on its own flights page that taxes and fees are part of the price shown. Fares and room prices change constantly, so no price winner is named here. Status October 2026.

Cashback and the shop page

Trip.com has its own page with us: Trip.com at daily cashback (a German-language page). Hotels, flights, train tickets, car hire and attraction tickets are listed separately there, and the shop page itself shows the rate per product. Expedia is no partner shop of ours. Whatever you book there goes unrecorded with us, hotel or flight alike.

Booking a hotel or flight on Trip.com with cashback

  1. Look at what your trip costs, on Expedia too if you like. Note destination, dates and the final amount.
  2. Go to the Trip.com shop page, with the ad blocker disabled and other deal tabs shut.
  3. Pick the line for the product you want to book and click through to the provider. Trip.com opens in a new window.
  4. Search for the trip or property there again and pay without leaving the session.
  5. Your free account first lists the entry as pending; confirmation follows when the shop marks the stay or trip as finished.

A long time can lie between booking and confirmation. A trip booked in spring for the autumn stays pending all summer. That is normal, but keep the booking confirmation.

When cashback is lost

  • The booking is cancelled or the trip is skipped. Either way it does not count as completed.
  • You book at Expedia or start the booking there, even if the same hotel shows up.
  • After our shop page you click through a voucher or comparison site. Your last click is the one that counts, so the earlier one is lost.
  • An active ad blocker meant no pending entry was created.
  • You leave the window open for days and book later from the old tab. The link may be gone by then.

What sets them apart

What Trip.com offers. Trip.com's pages cover flights, hotels, train tickets, car hire, airport transfers, attractions and eSIMs. For flights the provider writes that taxes and fees are included in the price shown, that there are price alerts, round-the-clock customer support, and a way to collect airline miles and Trip Coins.

Hotels. For hotels Trip.com names a price match: if you find the same offer cheaper elsewhere, the difference is refunded in Trip Coins when the conditions are met. Trip Coins are credit for a later booking at Trip.com and something different from our cashback, which you have paid out from your account.

Service. The German help page of Trip.com lists a service number for flight and hotel bookings from 9 am to 11 pm Berlin time. The English page speaks of help around the clock. Which channel applies when, you see in your booking under help.

Loyalty scheme. Trip.com Rewards is the provider's own programme for collecting benefits and coins. It is a separate route next to cashback. How the two interact is set by Trip.com's terms and our shop page. Read the figure there, not here.

Expedia. Expedia bundles hotels, flights, car hire and packages on one platform. Which cancellation terms belong to an offer, Expedia shows with that offer before you pay. We go no further than this general frame, so that we claim nothing that differs from offer to offer.

Who should pick what

Cashback on a hotel, flight or train is the aim: Trip.com through the shop page. Every part of a trip can be booked separately that way, you just check the pending entry after each booking.

You like collecting bonus credit: Trip Coins and Rewards come on top. They do not replace cashback but work as credit for later bookings at Trip.com. You can keep track of both if you note the amounts separately.

You book hotel and flight separately: do both from the shop page, two orders, two pending entries.

You prefer one particular platform: on Expedia you get nothing credited through us. Decide whether that makes the difference for you.

Our recommendation

If cashback matters, book through Trip.com with the click from our shop page. Price the same trip on both beforehand and look only at the final amount including taxes, fees and cancellation terms.

Frequently asked questions

Is there cashback for Expedia?
No, Expedia is not one of our shops. Trip.com has a shop page with us, and the current rate per product stands there.
Can I compare on Expedia and book on Trip.com?
Yes. Open the Trip.com shop page afterwards and look up the hotel or flight there again, so the booking is recorded with us.
When do I see the Trip.com cashback?
As a pending entry right after booking, confirmed after the shop marks the stay or trip as finished.
What happens to the cashback if I cancel?
It falls away for that booking, since a cancelled trip does not count as completed.
Are Trip Coins the same as cashback?
No. Trip Coins are credit for a later booking at Trip.com. Our cashback is paid out to you from the account.
Does the Trip.com flight price include taxes?
Trip.com writes on its flights page that taxes and fees are included in the price shown. Baggage and extras are shown by the provider in the booking step.
Does the price change if I book through your shop page?
No. You pay the price Trip.com shows. The shop page only starts the booking.
Does cashback also apply to train tickets and car hire at Trip.com?
The shop page lists hotels, flights, trains, car hire and attraction tickets on separate lines. Check there what applies to your product.
