Shopping at Scholastic UK: shipping abroad, returns and cashback
Scholastic is known for school book clubs, but its UK online shop also sells to private buyers and sends books abroad. What you pay depends on your country and the size of the basket, so here are the details in one place.
| At a glance | Scholastic UK shop |
|---|---|
| UK delivery | Free shipping from £30, otherwise £4.95 |
| Delivery time | 2 to 3 working days within the UK |
| Ireland | Free shipping from £35, otherwise £6.75 |
| Returns | 28 days for exchange or refund |
Delivery in the UK and Ireland
Orders to a UK address ship free from £30. Below that the shipping charge is £4.95. The shop quotes 2 to 3 working days for home delivery.
For the Republic of Ireland the shipping charge is £6.75 on orders under £35, and free from £35. British Forces Post Office addresses pay a £7.50 shipping charge under £50 and 15% of the order value as shipping from £50.
If your child's school has a Book Club order open, you can have the books sent to school with free shipping. UK schools that order outside Book Club also get free shipping from £30 and pay £4.95 below that. Orders of more than 15 book packs or single titles are only accepted for delivery to a school, not to a private or business address.
Shipping to other countries
Overseas, the shipping charge depends on the country and on the order value. The shop works with six bands: under £10, £10 to £50, £50 to £100, £100 to £200, £200 to £300 and over £300. Its list covers more than 200 destinations. These are some examples for the first three bands:
| Shipping to | Under £10 | £10 to £50 | £50 to £100 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany, France | £10 shipping | £15 shipping | £20 shipping |
| Austria, Italy, Spain | £12 shipping | £18 shipping | £25 shipping |
| United States, Canada | £12 shipping | £18 shipping | £25 shipping |
| Switzerland, Australia | £18 shipping | £22 shipping | £35 shipping |
On orders over £300 the shipping charge turns into a share of the order total: 15% for Germany, 20% for Austria and the United States, 30% for Switzerland and Australia. Delivery times for overseas orders vary. The shipping charge does not cover duties and taxes that may be due on delivery abroad. Shoppers in Finland are pointed to the Scholastic Europe shop instead.
Returns and cancellations
You can send items back within 28 days for an exchange or a refund. Include a covering letter that says which you want, and ask the Post Office for a certificate of posting in case a parcel goes astray. Scholastic only arranges a collection if the books are damaged or the wrong titles were sent. For damaged or incorrect items, write to [email protected] or call 0800 212 281 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm).
An order not paid with Scholastic Rewards can be reopened for changes until 5am the day after you placed it. After that, phone customer service to ask whether a change or cancellation is still possible. If the parcel has already left, return it within the 28 days.
Payment
Private customers pay by debit or credit card. Schools can pay by invoice to a valid school address. A school outside the UK has to pay the invoice in full before the order ships. Resource Bank subscriptions can be paid by direct debit, card or invoice.
Using cashback
Open the Scholastic page at daily cashback for the current rate (up to 2.5%) and the offers, which we check daily. Press the shop button, then order and pay as usual. In your free account the cashback first shows as open and becomes confirmed once Scholastic has reported the order. If you send an item back, its share is deducted.
Practical tips
- A UK basket at £27 or £28 reaches free shipping with one small extra book, instead of paying the £4.95 charge.
- Abroad, compare the bands before you add items: crossing £50 raises the shipping charge to the next level.
- Keep other voucher or cashback sites closed while you shop, since a later click can replace the first one.
