Shopping at Pure Beauty: delivery to Europe, costs by weight and returns

Pure Beauty is a UK online shop for skincare and haircare from brands such as Dermalogica, Elemis, Medik8 and Olaplex, run from Lichfield. Unlike many UK retailers it posts to a long list of European countries. The delivery terms differ sharply between a parcel to a UK address and one abroad, which is the main thing to know before filling a basket.

Shipping inside the UK

UK orders travel as Royal Mail Tracked 48, which the shop says arrives within 2 to 3 working days (Monday to Saturday count as delivery days). The shipping fee is £3.95 for parcels up to 10 kg, and orders over £30 ship free. The same service covers the Channel Islands. You can also collect an order for free at the salon in Lichfield. There is a minimum spend of £15, and the checkout only opens once the basket reaches it.

All delivery times run from the day the items leave the depot, and you get an email when they are sent. If a parcel is still missing after 10 working days, the shop says it will resend the whole order free of charge.

Shipping abroad

The delivery page lists 33 destinations: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Each country has its own cost page.

For Austria, France, Ireland, Norway and Switzerland the service is Royal Mail Airmail Tracked, and the price depends on the weight of the parcel. Shipping starts at £11.75 for up to 500 g, rises to £14.75 up to 1 kg, £20.75 up to 2 kg and £31.75 up to 4 kg, and reaches £67.75 at 10 kg. Royal Mail targets 3 days for Western Europe and 4 days for Eastern Europe, and these are targets only. A parcel counts as lost only after 25 working days. Check the cost page for your own country before you order, since each country page shows its own table.

The shop does not say who pays duty or VAT on parcels to non-EU countries such as Switzerland, Norway or Turkey, so ask the shop at [email protected] before you order there.

Returns

If you change your mind, you may return an item within 14 days of receiving the order, and then you have a further 14 days to send it back after telling the shop. Products must come back with seals, shrink wrap and hygiene protection intact, because skincare and cosmetics cannot be accepted once opened, unless faulty. You pay the return postage for unwanted orders and the original delivery charge is not refunded, except where UK consumer law requires it.

Returns must go with Royal Mail from a Post Office counter with a proof of postage receipt, which you keep until the return is processed. Refunds normally take 5 to 10 working days after the goods are received and checked, and go to the original payment method. For a faulty or damaged product, stop using it, contact the shop at once and keep the product and packaging.
