Digitising with MEDIAFIX: hand-over, processing time, payment and cashback
MEDIAFIX digitises slides, negatives, photos, video tapes, cine films, audio tapes and cassettes. You send your media in or drop them off, and you get them back as files. On mediafix.ch the practical questions are therefore how to hand over the media, how long processing takes, how the originals come back and how payment works. This guide covers an order placed in Switzerland.
Handing over your media: post or drop-off point
You start with a non-binding online enquiry and receive a personal order form. The signed form goes into the parcel, because without the signature MEDIAFIX may not digitise anything. Send the parcel by post or any carrier you like to the logistics centre in Laufenburg AG, the address is on your form. Pack the sensitive film so it is protected in transit.
If you prefer not to post anything, you can hand the media in person at one of 8 drop-off points in Adliswil, Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, St. Gallen and twice in Zurich. A MEDIAFIX courier takes everything to Cologne for digitisation and back to the same point, where you collect it. The company says this is cheaper than a shipping service, which it puts at 12.50 CHF per leg and parcel.
Processing time
Regular processing takes about 2 to 4 weeks from the arrival of your media, and up to 6 weeks in very busy periods. The FAQ names six weeks as the standard processing time, with 90 percent of orders done in two to four weeks. Transit to and from you comes on top. Priority and Express service give your order preferential treatment. You receive two status emails, when processing starts and when the job is complete with the invoice, so check your spam folder too.
Prices and payment
Small-format slides start at 0.25 CHF per slide and VHS tapes at 17 CHF per tape, depending on quantity, format and quality level. You pay after digitisation, on invoice, by PayPal, bank transfer or in up to 12 instalments at 0 percent. Quote the invoice and order number on a transfer. According to the FAQ, MEDIAFIX covers all costs connected with your order, including customs charges.
Getting originals and data back
After digitisation your original media and the digital files come back by insured post. The files arrive on a data DVD (for MP4), on a USB stick, as an instant download or on your own storage device that you send along. If its capacity is too small, MEDIAFIX uses one of its own for a surcharge.

Using cashback
Open the MEDIAFIX page at daily cashback for the current rate ($3.65) and the offers with the date we last checked them. Press the shop button and send your enquiry as usual. The cashback shows as open in your free account and becomes confirmed once MEDIAFIX has reported the order. If the order is not carried out or is refunded, the share is not paid. A code from another site in the same visit can cost you the cashback.
Practical tips
- Enquire online before sending anything, since the drop-off page says that is how you secure the current promotion.
- For orders from outside Switzerland, call 043 217 91 11 first and have the route confirmed.
- Format your own storage device with FAT32 for photos and NTFS for videos, or exFAT for Mac computers.
