Booking.com vs HRS: Who Has the Cheapest Hotel Prices?
Booking.com vs HRS: Who Has the Cheapest Hotel Prices? A blanket answer would be a guess. We look instead at what counts beyond the room price: cashback via our shop pages, loyalty discounts and what a cancellation does.
Anyone looking for a hotel for a business trip or a city break often ends up at Booking.com or HRS. Both are at daily cashback. It gets interesting when you ask how cashback is meant to sit with the perks the sites offer themselves: Genius at Booking.com, miles and points at HRS. We read the help pages and terms of both providers, status October 2026.

Where you start
Booking.com: page at daily cashback. HRS is listed too; the stores overview shows whether it is offered for your country. The current rate is on the shop page, and we do not repeat it as a figure here. From the shop page you go to the provider, switch off the ad blocker and book in one session. With HRS this matters particularly: start the search from the page you opened via us, not in an HRS window that was already open.
HRS: cancel late, collect points
HRS describes itself as one of the three biggest hotel portals in Europe and aims at business travellers. According to HRS a standard booking can often be cancelled free of charge until a set time on the arrival day, named as 6 pm local time. That does not hold for every rate. For many bookings you pay only at the hotel; some rates require prepayment.
With the free myHRS account HRS says it offers miles with Miles & More and points with BahnBonus (1 euro equals one mile or point), late check-out, upgrades subject to availability, booking templates and automatic rebooking if the price falls after booking. That is a different benefit from cashback, but you can keep both in view. Whether miles and cashback can be credited on one booking at once is in the terms on our shop page and with the programme.
Booking.com: Genius and clear terms
Genius gives 10% off stays after sign-up, based on the price before taxes and charges. After 5 bookings in 2 years Level 2 follows with 10 to 15%, after 15 bookings Level 3 with 10 to 20%. Booking.com also lists breakfast, upgrades and priority support on higher levels. The discount applies only at participating properties.
On cancelling Booking.com says: the property sets the fee, none is due on free-cancellation bookings, and non-refundable rates may carry one. Dates cannot be changed there. The rules are in the confirmation. You mostly pay at the property.
Cashback and cancelling
Both work the same way: after booking the cashback first shows as pending in your account and is confirmed after the stay. If you cancel, it falls away. The late cancellation time at HRS makes it easier to keep the decision open until arrival day. But if you do cancel, the cashback is gone, however late you decide.
For business trips there is the invoice. At Booking.com only the property issues one, so ask before check-out. In its terms HRS says for its Pay online function that hotels are to issue the invoice. Pay online may also carry a transaction fee, shown before you pay.
Loyalty and cashback together
In practice it works like this: Genius or myHRS run through your account with the provider, the cashback runs through our shop page. You sign in at the provider but start via the shop page. That way you can keep a discount or miles and cashback in view on one booking, unless the terms say otherwise. Check that for your case on the shop page before you count on miles.

What we recommend
We recommend Booking.com for most trips, because there are more accommodation types, the terms are easy to read and Genius works right after sign-up. HRS is the sensible choice for business trips and short-notice city breaks where the late cancellation time and miles matter.
If you want to save the most, run both prices for your hotel. We make no general statement on which site is cheaper.
Takeaways
- Both are listed with us; the rate is on the shop page.
- Cashback after the stay, gone on cancellation.
- At HRS check the deadline of the chosen rate; not every one has 6 pm.
- Miles, points and Genius run through your account with the provider.
