Booking.com vs Trip.com: Who Has the Cheapest Hotel Prices?
Booking.com vs Trip.com: Who Has the Cheapest Hotel Prices? A blanket answer would be a guess. We look instead at what counts beyond the room price: cashback via our shop pages, loyalty discounts and what a cancellation does.
Booking.com and Trip.com are both listed at daily cashback. So the question is not where cashback exists but which booking really triggers it. That depends less on the site than on whether the trip takes place, whether you enter cleanly via the shop page and how payment runs. We go through all of it, status October 2026.

The entry point
Booking.com has its own page at Booking.com at daily cashback. Trip.com is listed too; check the stores overview for whether it is offered for your country. You see the current rate on the shop page, and we do not print a figure here because it changes. The button takes you to the provider. After that: ad blocker off, no extra comparison sites, everything in one session. Your price stays the same.
What Trip.com does differently
Trip.com offers hotels, flights, rail and more in one account. For cashback that means you should know which part you are booking, since hotels and flights have different terms. We talk about hotels here. According to its terms of use some bookings require online prepayment, others are paid at the hotel. In a foreign currency your card may apply a different rate and charge a fee for international payments.
One peculiarity is in the terms: for an apparent pricing error Trip.com may cancel the booking or change the price. If the booking falls away, so does the cashback. The same holds if Trip.com cancelled because a payment failed. A bargain that looks too good should be firm before you build a trip on it.
What Booking.com does differently
At Booking.com the property sets the cancellation fee. Without free cancellation a fee can apply, and you may ask via the booking for a waiver. Dates cannot be changed on non-refundable bookings. Payment is mostly at the property, sometimes with a deposit. Your cashback does not depend on when you pay but on the trip taking place.
Booking.com also says that discount vouchers from magazines or shops cannot be redeemed there. So you do not have to choose between voucher and cashback.
When it is confirmed
On both sites the cashback first shows as pending in your account after booking. It is confirmed after the stay. If you cancel the booking, there is no cashback. That sounds strict but is logical: the provider pays us only for trips that really happen. The more flexible your rate, the easier it is to re-plan later without paying a cancellation fee, but if you drop the trip the cashback is gone.
If you doubt that the trip will happen, book the hotel with free cancellation and note the deadline with its time of day. If you go, the cashback is confirmed after the stay. If not, at least you paid no cancellation fee. Keep the confirmation email in case you later need to ask us which booking you mean.
Loyalty scheme and cashback together
Booking.com Genius gives 10% off stays after sign-up, 10 to 15% after 5 bookings in 2 years and 10 to 20% after 15, at participating properties and before taxes and charges. Trip.com has a membership system with tiers and Trip Coins. Trip.com sets out the tiers and the value of the coins in its membership terms.
Both schemes run through your account with the provider. The cashback runs through us. Which amounts count in the calculation is in the terms on each shop page. On Booking.com you can use Genius and cashback in one booking unless the shop page says otherwise.

What we recommend
Booking.com is our recommendation for pure hotel bookings: the help pages are clear, Genius brings a discount and the cashback runs without peculiarities. Trip.com fits if you want flight and hotel in one account and check the terms of each part separately.
Which site is cheaper for your hotel only shows when you compare the total for the same nights. We make no general statement on that.
Takeaways
- Start from the shop page, ad blocker off, book in one session.
- Confirmation after the stay; cancelling forfeits the cashback.
- On Trip.com check payment type and currency in the booking step.
- Booking.com: the cancellation rule is in the confirmation, invoices only from the property.
