Expedia vs Hotels.com: Who Has the Cheapest Hotel Prices?
Expedia vs Hotels.com: Who Has the Cheapest Hotel Prices? A blanket answer would be a guess. We look instead at what counts beyond the room price: cashback via our shop pages, loyalty discounts and what a cancellation does.
Expedia and Hotels.com share a loyalty scheme, but not our cashback. That is the key difference from the daily cashback point of view: we list Hotels.com, not Expedia. Here is what that means for your booking. The scheme details come from a help page of the provider, status October 2026.

Two sites, one account
According to a Vrbo help page, One Key covers Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo with the same account. You collect OneKeyCash and trip elements, with the tiers Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Silver needs 5 elements a year, Gold 15 and Platinum 30. For hotels one night per room counts if it costs at least 25 US dollars excluding taxes and fees.
From a cashback view that is handy: you can book on Hotels.com, receive our cashback and the same booking counts for One Key. Collecting in the programme does not replace cashback and vice versa.
Hotels.com with cashback
Hotels.com has a page at daily cashback; the stores overview shows whether it is offered for your country. The rate changes, so no figure is printed here. Book in one session with the ad blocker off and without opening other comparison sites in between.
Important: if you redeem a discount code on Hotels.com, the cashback can be lost. The code may save more, or less. Work out both before you click book.
When does the money arrive?
After booking the cashback first shows as pending in your account and is confirmed after the stay. If you cancel, there is no cashback. If you booked a free-cancellation room and cancel in time, you pay the hotel nothing but get no credit either. The OneKeyCash balance from the programme runs separately and follows the One Key rules.
Expedia without cashback
Expedia is not listed with us. That says nothing about price or quality of the site; we simply have no cashback partnership there. If you book through Expedia, One Key remains your own way to collect credit. Expedia shows the exact cancellation and payment terms in the booking step for each offer. Look there at deadline, time of day and the total.
A look at Booking.com
If cashback matters and you do not need a discount code, look at Booking.com as well. It has its own page with us. Booking.com states on its help page that the property sets the cancellation fee and that nothing is due on free-cancellation bookings. Its Genius scheme gives 10% off stays after sign-up and up to 20% on higher levels, at participating properties and before taxes and charges.
That is our recommendation of the three: Booking.com, because the terms are easy to read, cashback is possible and Genius comes at no cost. In favour of Hotels.com is that you may use One Key anyway.
Discount code or cashback: how to work it out
Take the total in the last booking step once with the code and once without. The difference is what the code saves you. Set that against the cashback shown on the shop page. The terms on which amount the rate applies to are also there. If the code is worth more, use the code and give up the cashback. If it is the other way round, leave the code out.
Do not forget that cashback is confirmed only after the stay. The code works at once. Whoever prefers to see the money on the invoice will lean to the code. Whoever is patient and books a flexible rate anyway can wait for the credit.

- Note the total with taxes and fees, and remember city tax on site on top.
