Yello electricity in Germany: contract term, cancellation, withdrawal and cashback
Yello is an energy supplier from Cologne (Yello Strom GmbH) that sells electricity, gas, heating electricity and car charging tariffs in Germany. This guide is for people who live in Germany and are comparing contracts, for example expats who need a supply contract for a flat. There is no shipping here. What counts is how long the contract runs, how it renews, how to cancel or withdraw and what happens when you move. We read the FAQ on contract and tariff, the withdrawal page and the cancellation page on yello.de in October 2026.
Contract length and renewal
The term depends on the tariff. By law the maximum initial term of an energy supply contract for consumers is 24 months. Yello explains that if supply starts up to 3 months in the future, it can offer a tariff with a 21-month term, and up to 6 months ahead one with 18 months. Many tariffs also come with a price guarantee for a full 24 months, independent of the contract term, so the guarantee can outlast the minimum term. After the minimum term the contract renews automatically; you do not need to do anything. You can cancel at the end of the minimum term or at any time afterwards, with four weeks' notice in text form such as a letter or email.
Changing tariff
A switch to another Yello tariff is usually possible earliest 6 months and latest 6 weeks before the end of the term. Your term and notice period are shown in your "Mein Yello" account and in the Yello app.
Withdrawal and cancellation
If you took out an electricity or gas contract as a consumer by distance selling, for example online, you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal. You can use the online withdrawal function or the model withdrawal form. Cancelling is done with the cancellation form on the site, where you give your contract number, name, email and delivery address and choose the type of cancellation, for instance cancellation at the next possible date.
Moving house
You can take the contract with you. Yello needs your new address, the moving date and the new meter number or MaLo ID, and for electricity at the latest 3 days before the move. If you miss that, the local provider takes over temporarily, and Yello arranges to get supply back. For gas you can report the move retroactively.

Using cashback
Open the Yello page at daily cashback, where the current rate (up to $279.88) is listed. Press the shop button and complete the contract on the Yello site. In your free account the cashback shows as pending and becomes confirmed after Yello has reported the contract. If you withdraw, the cashback for it is deducted.
Practical tips
- Note the end of the minimum term in your calendar, because the contract renews on its own.
- For a planned move, ask for supply start and tariff terms early. The term can be longer or shorter depending on the start date.
- Finish the contract in one visit and avoid clicking other cashback or voucher sites meanwhile.
