Subscribing to Surfshark: renewal, the 30-day money-back guarantee, taxes and cashback
Surfshark is a VPN provider that also sells related privacy tools such as Alternative ID, Antivirus and Alert. There is nothing to ship, so the questions that matter before you buy are different: how the subscription renews, what the money-back guarantee covers, which taxes are added and how many devices it works on. We read the terms of service and the pricing page on surfshark.com in October 2026. The terms say that your contract is with Surfshark B.V., a company established in the Netherlands, that payments are processed by Surfshark Limited in London and Surfshark Inc. in California, and that the terms can change.
What you get
The pricing page lists plans named Starter, One and One+. The VPN is part of all of them, and the page marks unlimited devices. It advertises more than 4,500 servers in 100 countries. The apps cover Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Android TV, Apple TV and Fire TV, and there are browser extensions. Prices on the page change with the running offers and show a note that VAT may apply, so we do not quote them here.
Automatic renewal
Surfshark subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each service period, and the chosen payment method is charged again unless you cancel before the renewal. For subscriptions longer than one month, Surfshark says it informs you by email in advance. If you bought directly from Surfshark, you can switch off automatic payments at any time in your account. You can also write to [email protected], and the support team cancels the automatic payments. If you bought through a third party, the third party's rules decide how you cancel. Before the end of a period, Surfshark may run a small pre-authorisation on your card to check it; the amount is reversed.
The 30-day money-back guarantee
The terms promise a refund if you claim it within 30 days of your first purchase of a service. It applies to the initial purchase only, once per service, and for subscriptions every recurring payment is non-refundable. Several cases are excluded:
- sign-ups through resellers other than Paddle, Google Play or Cleverbridge
- payments with prepaid cards or gift cards
- the anonymous Dedicated IP option, once selected
- purchases connected to the Alternative ID service, such as the Alternative Number feature
- users who had a free trial of 30 days or longer
Deleting your account does not bring back the unused part of a running period. Surfshark can also refuse a refund if you breach the terms. In exceptional cases it may consider a refund after 30 days, at its own discretion. For payments in cryptocurrency, the US dollar equivalent is refunded in the same cryptocurrency at the exchange rate of the moment.
Taxes and law
The fees are stated excluding taxes. Surfshark may add VAT, GST or other taxes and duties according to the laws that apply to you at the time of purchase. The terms are governed by the law of the British Virgin Islands, but they say your mandatory consumer rights under the law of your country of residence stay in place. Users must be 18 or older.

Using cashback
Open the Surfshark page at daily cashback. It is a German-language page that shows the current rate (20%), the offers we found and the date of the last check. Press the shop button, then subscribe on the Surfshark site. The cashback is listed as open in your free account and is confirmed once Surfshark has reported the order. If you claim a refund within the guarantee, the cashback for that purchase is cancelled as well.
Tips
- Note the renewal date and decide before it whether you want to keep the plan, since later payments are not covered by the guarantee.
- Pay by card or PayPal rather than prepaid card or gift card if you want the option of a refund.
- Pause your ad blocker on the Surfshark site while you subscribe, so the cashback click is not lost.
