Hotels.com vs Trip.com: Who Has the Cheapest Hotel Prices? Cashback Compared

· 2026-10-05

Hotels.com vs Trip.com, which one earns you more cashback? At both you start on the daily cashback shop page, and at both the room price and the cancellation rule matter. Which cashback ends up higher depends on the current rate and the amount you pay. We recommend Hotels.com first, because there cashback and One Key can be combined as long as you book without a voucher code. Rules as of October 2026.

Where to look

Cashback availability depends on the country version of daily cashback. Open the shop list for your country and look for Hotels.com and Trip.com. The shop page shows the current rate, the offers and the date of the last check, and a button leads from there to the provider. Your price stays the same, the provider pays us a share and we pass it on.

Getting a clean match

Always begin on the shop page, switch off the ad blocker and keep other comparison or voucher sites closed in between. The same goes for Trip.com, even if you book flight and hotel separately: every booking needs its own route via the shop page. The cashback then appears as pending in your free account.

When it is confirmed

For hotels it is confirmed when the provider reports the trip as completed, so after the stay. If you book in spring for autumn, you wait accordingly. That is normal. If you cancel, there is no cashback. With open dates a free-cancellation rate is worth it. At Trip.com cheaper rooms are often not changeable or refundable according to its terms, while at Hotels.com the booking step shows the deadline.

The voucher code catch

At Hotels.com cashback only applies to bookings without a voucher code. If you enter one, the credit can be lost. Do a quick sum beforehand to see which gives more, the code or the cashback. You cannot have both. With the One Key loyalty scheme there is no such clash, as the elements keep counting while you are signed in.

When several parts are booked

Trip.com bundles hotels, flights and trains. Cashback attaches to each part and its rate, which the shop page shows. If one part is cancelled, the cashback for it falls away. On trips with several parts, a sensible order is the least flexible part first, then accommodation with free cancellation, transfers last.

Before you click book

A short check saves trouble. Are you signed in to the hotel site so that its loyalty scheme runs along? Do room type, nights and number of guests match? Have you seen the cancellation deadline with its time of day? And is the basket free of voucher codes if you want cashback at Hotels.com? Tick these four and most of the work is done. When you pay in a foreign currency, your bank uses its own rate, which applies to both sites and has nothing to do with our cashback.

After booking

Keep the confirmation email from the hotel site in a folder until the cashback is confirmed. Check names, dates and room type at once, because corrections are easiest early on. A pending entry should appear in your daily cashback account after a short time. If the trip changes later, for instance through a rebooking, the amount on which cashback is calculated can change. On cancellation it falls away completely.

Why Hotels.com comes first

Our order has a sober reason. At Hotels.com the cashback rule is simple: book without a voucher code and keep a clean click route. You can read the One Key tiers in the Expedia Group help, with numbers for Silver, Gold and Platinum. At Trip.com the rules for member tiers and Trip Coins sit in separate terms you have to open first. That is no flaw, it just explains why we put Hotels.com ahead in our recommendation. Anyone who wants flight, train and hotel in one account can still do better with Trip.com.
