Buying Corel software: licences, free trials, refunds and cashback
Corel sells creative and productivity software, among them CorelDRAW, PaintShop Pro, VideoStudio, Painter, WinZip, MindManager and WordPerfect. Nothing is shipped in a box for most purchases, so the questions that matter are different from a normal web shop: which licence type you buy, how a trial works, what happens with a refund and in which country the software is available. This guide goes through what Corel writes on its own pages.
Where and in which language you can buy
The Corel site is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese and Traditional Chinese, and a language menu in the page footer switches between them. The terms of service say the services can be reached from many countries and may mention products that are not available where you live. The licence agreement adds that software or a single feature may not exist in every language or country. If a product is missing for your country, ask support before you pay.
The checkout runs through the shopping cart provider Cleverbridge. On the special offers page the European prices are shown including VAT. Taxes such as sales tax, GST or VAT are charged as the law of your country requires, based on the billing name and address you enter.
Delivery of the software
There is no parcel to wait for. After the purchase Corel or its payment agent sends a receipt, and you receive a licence certificate with the licence key by email. The certificate states the licence type, the term, the permitted number of devices and the support that is included. Physical media appear in the licence text only where applicable.
Subscription or one-time purchase
The licence agreement knows two models. A Subscription Licence runs for a fixed term, for example the 365-day plan of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite. A Perpetual Licence entitles you to the version you bought, and nothing more. Corel also lists a one-time purchase of the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite for Windows next to the annual plan. Subscriptions can renew automatically, and the terms say Corel sends notifications about auto-renewal to the email address in your account.
| Topic | Corel |
|---|---|
| Delivery | Electronic, licence key by email |
| Licence types | Subscription or perpetual |
| Free trials | 15 days for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, 30 days for many others |
| Refunds | Payments non-refundable, subject to mandatory law |
| Support | Free web support, live help for basic installation |
Free trials
Before you pay, you can try most products. The trial page promises no risk, no obligation and no credit card. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite has a 15-day trial, and the other products shown there, such as CorelDRAW Technical Suite, have 30-day trials. Install the trial on your own computer to check that your files, plug-ins and hardware work.
Refunds and cancellation
Corel is strict here. The licence agreement says that, without prejudice to mandatory law, all amounts payable are non-refundable. That means the rights you have by law stay untouched, but the shop itself does not advertise a money-back period. For a defective download, the agreement promises a 30-day warranty period during which Corel corrects defects or replaces the software. If you are unsure about a purchase, use the trial first and contact customer support before you buy.
Support and contact
A licence includes free web-based support and, during business hours, live support for basic installation and configuration. The support page has one entry per product family. For sales questions the contact page lists a phone line, and the company has offices in Ottawa, Munich, Malta and Tokyo.
Cashback on Corel orders
Open the Corel page at daily cashback, where the current rate (up to 5%) is shown. Press the button, shop as usual and pay. The cashback shows up in your free account as open and turns confirmed once Corel has reported the order. If you cancel or the order is reversed, the cashback is deducted.
Practical tips
- Start with the free trial and buy only after your workflow runs without problems.
- Read the licence type on the product page, so that you know whether you are buying a subscription that renews.
- Finish the order in one visit and keep other cashback or voucher sites closed, otherwise the click can be replaced.
