Buying software from Softwarehunter: delivery, payment, withdrawal and cashback
Softwarehunter is a German online shop for software licences: Windows, Microsoft Office, antivirus programs and server operating systems. The operator is OEM-Vertriebs GmbH in Leverkusen. Because the shop sells digital goods, the usual questions about parcels and customs do not apply. Other things matter instead, and this guide goes through them. The shop and its checkout are in German.
Delivery: by email, not by post
Everything arrives digitally. The shop sends an email with the access data or a download link. That email goes out within 1 to 3 working days after the contract is concluded, usually within a few hours. If you chose prepayment, the clock starts when your payment instruction counts as received. There is no parcel, so there are no shipping costs: the shop states that delivery is free of charge to every country it serves.
Which countries those are is not spelled out on the delivery page. The cashback programme at daily cashback runs for the German market, and the shop itself talks to German customers. If you live elsewhere, check the checkout before you rely on it.
Payment methods
The payment page names these options:
- Prepayment by bank transfer: you get the bank details with the order confirmation and have 7 calendar days to pay
- Amazon Pay
- Credit card (Visa, Mastercard) and Maestro. Credit cards must have been issued in Germany
- Sofortüberweisung
- Purchase on invoice: only for German customers, and you need a customer account
- Klarna
- Apple Pay
With prepayment the licence is sent right after the money arrives. The terms add that for payments from outside the European Union, bank or exchange-rate fees can come on top, and these are yours to carry.
Withdrawal and refunds
Consumers can withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason. You tell the shop by email ([email protected]) or letter, and a model form is available. The shop then refunds everything you paid within 14 days, using the same payment method. With digital goods there is one catch: the right of withdrawal ends early if the shop has started to perform the contract after you expressly agreed to that and confirmed you know you lose the right. In practice, once a licence key has been delivered on that basis, you may not be able to withdraw.
